So how did this turn out? I remember having a good time with Explorers, but Gates to Infinity felt weirdly watered-down. Did Super do anything to fix that?

Super is good, it has the best gameplay so far.
However, the pacing and the story are meh.
Super has the better gameplay and Sky has the better content.
I do think it is a good game work buying
