Not at all. I loved spending time in Ice Path in Crystal. You could get all sorts of rare mons like Swinub, Jynx, Delibird, and Sneasel. It wasn't like the rest of Johto which just had Pidgey crammed down your throat every step.

I think I was stuck for two days.

It got to the point where I fell in love with the theme. Legitimately the only time I had trouble with a puzzle until Wallace's gym in ORAS.

It wasn't that hard if you printed out a picture of the room beforehand. I also don't remember finding Whitney much harder than other gym leaders.
Maybe I actually spent all day retrying infamous "hard parts" of games as a kid, and it just didn't seem that long because I was having so much fun, I don't know.

It's not that bad, really. It's designed so that if you go the wrong way, you can fix it by going the opposite direction, or you get sent back to an earlier part of the puzzle.

Even ten minutes of random flailing on the controls will get you through.

Come to think, did TPP ever go through Gold/Silver? If so, wouldn't be surprised if they made it through this part.

And figuring out what type the opponent is, which is usually easy but sometimes has curveballs like Lucario's Steel-type.

Nobody said it was skillful, but it's part of an RPG to figure out stuff like weaknesses naturally. Telling you exactly what move to use after only one battle against an opponent nullifies that.

Pic related fucked me up in several ways, for some reason I missed that I had to visit Goldenrod to fight Rockets. I only realized it after a week when I got a guidebook.

Then when I finally did that, I also missed that Clair goes into Dragon's Den, and I went for days before realizing I could surf behind the gym.

The Ice Tunnel is just trial and error really.

I was stuck in the Rock Tunnel for far longer because I'd wandered in without Flash or Escape Ropes and couldn't find the exit. I remember it being such a relief when I came out at the other end.

Took me 5-10 minutes at worst iirc. Since I needed to go right I looked at the rocks to the left of the path, of which there were two. Then I just worked backwards a bit. After that, getting to the part I worked backwards to only took a couple of tries.

Was this in silver/gold and was there some reason that I would pass through it a lot? My fingers seem to follow muscle memory to complete the path after I did the first three steps.

I always increased the contrast to max to cheat my way through the 'flash required' tunnel in rgb. I was disappointed that I couldn't use this tactic and 'needed' flash to get through the one in gold/silver.

The only main game puzzle that ever game me hell was the Team Rocket headquarters in one of the Sevii Islands. The one with the spin panels, near the Onix tombstone I think.

This fucked me when I was a child too. It didn't take me days though. An hour or two.

Silph Co was bad. The ice puzzles were bad. Victory road was bad. I'm not sure if they're easy now because I'm older if it's because I've done them so many times.

I actually did this part within my first few tries.

The one that fucked me over for a bit was the one where you had to drop boulders from the second level and then figure out how to get into the middle stairs of the room.

That took me at least an hour or so as a kid.
