Of course the fifth one is going to be bad, though, once romance is involved as the show will always remain in a status quo which makes any romantic plot irrrelevant. And, well, the characters are one-dimensional, and I doubt they will ever add any dimension to them. Which makes character-driven storylines hard and, at most, still bad.
Having said that, the villains are mostly the ones who add any story in the first place since the hero never does shit. Their motives vary, or at least can be, and that's why they're more interesting and what I meant when I talk about character-driven storylines.
Nonetheless, yeah, Latias as a human being in love with Ash was never gonna work out in any way possible because it's a Pokemon movie.
Its theme wasn't really approached in any way as well, which is why I pointed out the first's and third's one; both do something that isn't really being done before. Both have themes that could work well without the realms of Pokemon. Both are themes that haven't really been done since as well.
Actually, Pokemon 2000 had a great concept. You don't often see the collection aspect in Pokemon despite it being the most important one besides, obviously, fighting.
That really sucks because they give literally no motivation to the villain, only in the japanese hand-outs he has any which basically means fuck-all.
I don't remember much besides the most important moments (like, two or three), but I do remember that Team Rocket did something heroic for once, although I really don't remember what it was. Or how it mattered.
