Comfy Alola region thread? Which areas are you most looking forward to exploring? What are you gonna do to prepare for Sun/Moon?

I'm looking forward to the island to the right of the starting one, looks like it's straight outta Wii Sports Resort and I cant wait to see what's in that huge hotel place

Everything on the southeastern island looks fun. Between the walled-off city, Johto immigrant town, that barren-looking desert area with the Slaking Motel and the trailers, and whatever is going on with that mountain and the elevators, it really looks like the most adventure is over there.

I'm really curious to see what those multiple water pools on the second island are. Also the ice volcano seems interesting as well. Maybe we'll see a combo of ice and fire type Pokemon there? This is honestly my favorite Pokemon map so far IMO. It has so many details to it and mysterious locations that gets me really excited to see in the game.

My theory is that it's gonna be like indoor amusement park/hub area like Mauville City in ORAS and include stuff like the department store, move tutors, and maybe even a postgame Battle Frontier/facility

I can't wait to get my hands on another region, and this time in full 3d! The thing I really loved about Kalos was its diversity (both environmental and pokemon available) and Alola seems to be doing the same thing, but better! Of course I know better than to assume the best, so I'm keeping my hopes relatively stable just in case. If anything, I'm really looking forward to all the mysteries we're not able to see from the map, like caves, forests, the back of the islands, buildings, puzzles and things like that.

What made me think of Mauville was this screenshot of the Hyper Training place, it looks extremely similar
If it is an indoor resort amusement park like place, I hope they go all out and throw in some indoor roller coasters for scenery and it looks like one of those tribal hotels

Can anyone guess where the pic related location is? It's been in a few of the trailers so far with Cutiefly, Comfey and I think Magearna, but nowhere on the map seems to have a place with lots of yellow flowers. It also looks like it's within a crater of some kind too with the moutainy bits all around the battlefield.

In hindsight and compared to other games (2D and 3D) the map progression in any given route - bar the occasional cave and ocean - feels more linear than other games. Even with optional things within each route and the fact that many other games use an A to B path, Pokemon games feel far more confined and linear. Like a tunnel. Or FF XIII. Only Route 217 in Sinnoh felt more open.

Take Gaur Plains in Xenoblade. Whether exploring or doing story only, your path is still A to B to C (story) and for both going in a single general direction (as opposed to Colony 9 where you're going all over the place). The field still feels more open than Pokemon games, despite breaking down level navigation to it's base.

bright yellow flowers are conspicuously absent from the region map. all of the images showing the flowers have a dark rock wall in the background. my guess is that this area is actually inside the volcano on melemele island. "melemele" does mean yellow.

and the volcano is clearly based off of diamond head.

Looking at the map again, I'm convinced Mauna Kea is going to be Victory Road and the Observatory will be the Elite 4

There's a Pokemon center right outside the ice caves entrance and then there's another right outside that leads to the building

Victory road being an ice cave will be a really cool change of pace

i thought the same thing but then somebody pointed out that the road from the town on the right side of that island seems to lead up the observatory.

i still think the observatory will be the elite four though...that road might just cut through the mountain?

I think that there will definitely be an ice cave up there considering where drampa was fought in the reveal plus the website stating that it lived up in 10,000 ft plus mountains. Not sure about the victory road part though. Could be pretty cool, I fucking love Mauna Kea at night though. Any of the current victory road options seems pretty great at the moment.

Alola in general just seems like it'll be awesome. The unique look of so many of the towns and areas is really refreshing. I don't really recall any Pokemon games having a much in the way of tropical locations outside of small post-game zones.

You enter through the bottom, fight your way from the bow to the stern going from the lower to the upper decks, and then each of the elite 4 are on top of the masts until you fight the champion in the Captians Cabin or crows nest

There is a pirate looking ship chilling in the middle of the map

Someone brought up the idea that since Surfing was invented in Hawaii and a huge part of the culture, maybe a surfing mini game like in Yellow could be the new contest like feature?

Maybe they could incorporate something like the Gooper races in Super Mario Sunshine and add in races or obstacle courses

We can see Sharpedo and Lapras in the trailers with special jet ski gear so maybe thats a good sign for something like this to be put in
