Getting serious for a moment -- if you look at the pattern of base stats in Gen 1 (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pok%C3%A9mon_by_base_stats_(Generation_I)), you'll notice that a lot of Pokemon just have the pattern of gaining a fixed number, say 15 or 20, to all of their stats upon evolution. For two-stage Pokemon, it's more like 25. Abra's absurd Special makes sense if you assume they started with Alakazam and worked backwards.
