Literally every Gen 1 Grass type was dual typed besides Tangela.

All of them besides Paras and Exeggcute's lines were also Grass/Poison.

Bulbasaur actually specifically did not need to be part poison at all. It actively hurt him, since Psychic was a bitch that gen.

Poison was a pretty useless type in gen 1. Choosing bulbasaur pretty much meant that you wanted to triple murder brock and misty.

Torterra is ground, which fights fire type
Infernape is fighting, which fights steel type
Empoleon very easily learns ice moves, which is a staple of water starters, can counteract grass, especially grass/ground
