I assumed that one of the main reasons that Heart Gold was/is so expensive was because there were pokemon that were only obtainable in that game, and it was the only way to use them in later games (x and y). But with global trading (GTS), it doesn't seem necessary anymore.

So, why is Heart Gold so fucking expensive over every other game?

Shitty Pokewalker combined with Nintendo not making as many copies as they usually do because they don't want to keep making the shitty Pokewalker. Therefore the price goes up because most retailers need to include the Pokewalker to sell it and there aren't many new copies in circulation.

It's literally because of the Pokewalker causing the early end of production of the game.

Nah because it had some glaring flaws that make the whole game a slog for both casual and completionists alike especially when it comes to finishing the Pokedex because you have to own a Sinnoh game or know someone with one.

HGSS is one of the weakest entries because of it's reliance on gimmicks.

No, it really wasn't. Between how slow it was, and how Ganefreak didn't bother to fix the leveling issues, and the amount of shitmons, it's easily one of the weakest entries in the franchise.

I'm playing through it right now, and the entire game falls to pieces once you finish up Ecruteak.

You can get every Pokemon between XY and ORAS, people just like HGSS

otherwise they're all posted online for 100-200 dollars. so just try your local gameshops. look for platinum too if you think you'll want it because it's a similar situation

Yes, it happened to me on the 23rd in upstate new york. Also took like 10 minutes at the first store before anyone helped me, whereas at the other two I was greeted and asked if I needed help right when I walked in.

Yeah, I think I saw two other people total in the three stores. Even a couple years ago there would at least be a kid and a parent/grandparent there, but I guess grabbing the new blops and xbone at wallmart is better for average people and dedicated games stores can't cover every potential customers desires and make profit.

I think it's also representative of the decline of console gaming. these stores really only serve console needs. PC has steam/battle.net, and phones have their own e-store and most people just use their phones.

360 sold 90 mill, X-one sold 20 mill
ps3 sold 90 mill, ps4 sold 40 mill
only nintendo has been able to sell a lot of consoles

i couldn't tell you if it's a permanent swing but yeah mainstream consoles took a big hit and nintendo seemed to be the only ones who pulled of the 'our previous console but better/more' successfully

Pretty much. HGSS are the best games in the series. People would cry about the level curve or lack of "x" type of pokémon or weird distribution but in reality those things are present in every generation. In other words all pokémon games have one way or another those flaws. So given that constant it leaves us with the best Game Freak can do.

No, it's not. I just recently played through HG. I steamrolled through Chuck, Jasmine, and Pryce all at around level 33, and then the Kanto leaders at around level 50. Having things too open doesn't mix well with a game that expects you to be a specific level by the end. The game is a damn slog to play through because you end up wading through a marsh of underleveled shits, and then it throws something like Archer's Houndoom at you which is 15 levels higher than the underleveled shitters you've been fighting, but haven't been able to gain any EXP off of.
