So recently I started a nuzlocke on SS and I was only able to catch these guys in each area.
How the fuck do I defeat the first gym with this shit tier team?

Maybe you shouldn't have chosen Chikorita.

or you can get the Mareep egg or something from the pokecentner guy and hatch it in Violet City, counting it as your catch for that area

I used Chikorita in a nuzlocke and it went fine.
Sure it was dead weight and died to a wild Stantler at like full HP as a Bayleaf but I had other mons, useful mons.
