I like to think of it as bad engrish and we just interpret it badly because of it, like "hey guys hurr Im Sir Knight hurr durr Knight is my last name and I'm male, so that makes me Sir Knight" This is what it sounds like.
What it was meant to be like:
"I am the guardian(knight) of my sir (master)"
Which still makes sense for
