Do you think Game Freak regrets making these guys now? It seems at the time they had the right idea with the concept of "evolving" old Pokemon, but didn't quite hit the nail until megas were realized.
I just feel like if Mega Evolution existed in Gen IV, or if these evolutions didn't exist until Gen VI, they'd totally be megas and not regular evos. Now they just feel like an awkward experimental misstep on the road to Megas.
