>>27404976If you aren't even on the third gym and you have a full team of six in a game other than X and Y you are making your team too fast. Also be certain to battle all trainers in the game. Even in situations like the Sootopolis City gym or Lumiose gym where you are "punished" for messing up by having to battle trainers, intentionally mess up and battle them anyway. If you battle every trainer in the game, you will never have to grind on wild Pokemon. Except in Johto, but that's only if you have a full team of 6 before the Elite 4.
It is possible to have a full team of six by the second gym, but in this case the way you tell is by looking at your team's level compared to the trainers in the area. Your strongest Pokemon should be within 2-3 levels of the Pokemon of any trainer who only uses one pokemon, at least after the early routes in a game. All of your team other than HM slaves should be within 5 levels of your strongest Pokemon.
