You're right now that I think on it, aside from Greninja he's never had a water type worth much. Did Squirtle ever get an episode explaining why it didn't evolve like Bulbasaur?

Fairly sure Palpitoad was the writers attempt at Kingler done right, except despite appearing twice as much, it was even more forgettable somehow.
