>>27450983I fail to see why that makes it a weak game. There's actually so many Pokemon that every route is mostly different ones. There are literally 450 to choose from.
>>27450946I'm not saying don't give any new Pokemon. But a balance of old and new (X/Y only had 72 new Pokemon but also a bunch of brand new Megas) is for the best. When a game has nothing but new Pokemon, it just ends up feeling like an expy of itself.
Kanto has Pidgeot. Johto has Noctowl, which is an owl with Psychic moves. Hoenn has Swellow, which differentiates itself from Pidgeot by fucking being blue. Sinnoh has Staraptor, which while similar in concept looks far more unique than Swellow. Unova has Unfezant, which is either Swellow with a mask or a less interesting Staraptor. Kalos has Talonflame, which is a completely different type in Fire/Flying and has the design to match.
Kanto has Raticate. Johto has Furret, which is a completely different animal. Hoenn has Linoone, which is LITERALLY FURRET WITH A DIFFERENT FACE WHY HAS NOBODY NOTICED THIS? Sinnoh has Bibarel, which is again a different animal as well as being Normal/Water. Unova has Watchog, which is a unique animal, but also looks atrocious. Kalos has Diggersby, which doesn't even look anywhere close to the same and is Normal/Ground.
When a game is "all new Pokemon!" how many of those Pokemon just end up being expies of Pokemon we already had? It just feels like they're trying to "reboot" themselves without actually changing much. Whereas with a balance of old and new, not only does it feel like a proper Pokemon game expanded, but the new ideas are actually allowed to be more creative.
