Being an MMO player, I'd only be concerned with the endgame anyways - it's just that reasonable catch rates and Pokevision allowed me to get to the goals I had set for myself on my own, while it's basically a horrendous grind now.
Funny thing, with Pokevision, I would at times be dashing 800m+ just to reach a rare Pokemon, and with a not-so-horrendous way for catching all available Pokemon, I was actually actively walking to hatch eggs around a park (5min laps with a point with triple lures). I just don't have sufficient benefit to my time with the increased costs of playing the game now (not in money).
