There are barely any gym leaders that go past 4, Giovanni is the only notable one with 5, and also some Kanto leaders in Gen 2

Hala is the kahuna of the first island. Assuming we get 1-2 trials per island, that makes him equivalent to the second or third gym battle, NOT a member of the elite 4.

Chances are you're going to beat all 4 island kahunas throughout the game, then get swept away for some plot related stuff, then finally return to have an elite 4 type competition with all of them back to back, where they will have more/stronger pokemon than they did the first time.

Also, the Fomantis and Lurantis fight. They'll probably be charging up Solarbeams and Solar Blades while the others use status moves or keep up the pressure with Razor Leaf. Considering how wild mons had actual AI tactics in Horde battles (Seviper using Swagger on one another in XY and then eating Persim berries to cure the confusion), there's a lot GF can do with these boss herd fights.

No, you're right. This is almost as ridiculous as a 35 foot tall Exeggutor or an extra large Raticate that summons Rattata to help it fight in battle. Almost as crazy as not being able to fight the Champion at the end of the E4, instead having to capture a legendary and fight the evil team leader, who also has a legendary. No way Pokemon would do something unpredictable.

That's what I meant by the "battles" against them not being like the usual ones.

There's probably going to be several trials that involve battles, like defeating certain pokémon using certain moves, battling only with pokémon of a certain type, etc. They'll be more than just the usual "hit them until they all faint".

I hope that's the case. The games should stay at around Platinum level difficulty imo, Platinum was difficult enough to potentially be annoying sometimes but not difficult enough for kids to not be able to beat

At least I buy and play Pokemon on actual hardware. It's easier to spend $40 or so on a 3DS game twice a year than to buy a $1000 PC. Call me a poorfag, gutter trash, whatever. At least I'm not playing a broken Pokemon format. 3vs3 is legit.

I don't think this guy is even the first boss, since he's on your starting island and the first revealed trial leaders are on Akala island. I think you have to come back to Melemele to formally fight him later in the game.

I did it my first Y playthrough when Super Training got unlocked.

It was a mistake. Playing with Amie was also a mistake. XY has so many fucking traps that can completely ruin your playthrough by trivializing what little difficulty Pokémon has, and you won't find out until it's too late unless you looked up all the information before starting your playthrough.

I don't always do it, but sometimes I do. 90% of the Pokemon I use in serious battles were IV bred and EV trained in Hoards while holding Power items with Pokérus, but for that 10% maybe I just wanna play Super Training. It's actually pretty fun.

That's probably not right. Today's info states that each island has a totem and a kahuna, with kahuna fights coming after totems and kahuna fight is the end trial of each island.

The Totems and Kahunas will likely each be a 'gym leader' boss battle, one of each per island, 4 islands, for a total 8 'gym leader' boss fights just like previous games. But it's early, and maybe there's more that hasn't been revealed yet.

So the second 'gym leader' has 3 pokemon, and going by >>27482259 this seems right on track.

As long as their sprites show the wristband it might be possible to predict them coming. But even if you tank it, you'll probably have to switch out or fodderize the Pokemon.
Good news is you get your own super move too. That's a free OHKO for you in most battles, and with major trainers not usually having 6 mons, one free kill is a big thing.

This image doesn't have any rematch teams. Also in some cases the Cheateau teams for XY NPCs are worse than their normal teams, I think the E4 only have teams of three and Diantha only has a team of four.
