I wouldn't even mind having the mermaid if it meant also having the big fellow, while he looks definitely more brutish, he kind of looks majestic at the same time, like those big fat male sea lion that look up and act all prideful.
It'd definitely make more sense to have split evolutions with male Popplio evolving into something like Pinnister and female Popplio evolving into Poppmaid.
It'd definitely make more sense than having both male and female Popplio becoming her considering the many differences sea lions have gender wise.
