Cyndaquil in both Japanese and English is called the Fire Mouse pokemon. Which still isn't a rat, but close enough. Gamefreak probably hadn't thought of the Zodiac theme until after Gen III. Denialfags have this as their strongest argument.

Fennekin is another weak link for fans of the theory. Fennekin was deliberately made into a Fox (still a Canid) not to throw off Zodiac, but because every region since gen III I want to say has had an early-game dog Pokemon. Would you be half as interested in Rockfur if Litten was a dog instead of a cat? Probably not.
Litten amuses me. In the Chinese Zodiac, the cat was specifically excluded because it was tricked by the Rat (and presumably drowned in a river). However, it evolves into a Tiger. Almost seems like a cheeky nod from Gamefreak.
I support the Zodiac theory, but there isn't much point arguing it. Just like all the retards who thought the final starter leaks were fake despite overwhelming proof; you'll never convince them until the entire zodiac is filled in. Personally can't wait for a fire rabbit.
