New pokémon forms by adaptation to the environment is not a new concept, they have existed for years.

In fact, if you stop to think, Burmy/Wormadam were the first pokemon in the games to follow exactly this idea. So I think these new forms will be very well accepted initially, unlike mega evolutions. One is natural, the other is not.
