It's pretty much confirmed that each island will have multiple trials/trial captains. So there might be more than 8 captains. One captain for each type maybe?

There's also the fact the trailer states that after clearing the trials, in plural, you face the island's Kahuna.
So it's either multiple trials by each Captain or multiple Captains for each Kahuna.

You do understand that would mean remaking Kalos and most of it's character models from scratch, right?
Because XY uses the chibi artstyle that doesn't fit with Son/Moon's scale. Only a handful of characters and places have suitable models.

There could be multiple per island and stop only 4 islands. I assumed the South Island(s) simply meant the bottom right one on the region map.

While Alola is not small, I find it interesting one of the island is apparently almost uninhabited. It looks like the southwestern island has just one very small village.

If all the types are on these islands, I don't well see how. The only rope bridge I saw was on not-Kauai (the westernmost island). That place has little to do with Water whatsoever.
