>>27513468They're great but not without their flaws. The funny thing about HG/SS is they ignored most of the problems of the originals but just filled it with new good stuff to overshadow them. HG/SS are the fastest games of the slow Gen IV animations, health and exp bar, still somewhat slow with the latter.
The level scaling is one of the biggest issues most people have due to the openness of the map after the 4th gym and events that follow. Going in the proper gym order will have you fighting trainers with high teens to low 20s pokemon around the 7th gym when you should be well into the 30s.
All that aside, the presentation is fantastic. There are some new areas such as a minigame triathalon and a new route plus safari zone added to Johto. They're also the first remakes with the phys/special split implemented which gave it great replay value for long time fans and giving more pokemon proper usefulness. Kanto as a post game is a great idea but sadly falls a bit short as most gyms fall within the same level range meaning you'll likely steamroll them no problem. Again, the presentation is phenomenal and both Johto and Kanto have never looked better with Gen IV's aesthetics.
If you've never played the originals, the problems may not be as apparent, and there's so much good stuff surrounding them as far as presentation and mechanics it shouldn't hinder you.
