How do the parent's perfect IV stats get passesd down without the destiny knot?

Well I just beat the gum in Mauville and wanted to expirent with breeding. So I got a F. Squirtle from wonder trade which has Def. Sp atk. Sp def. And speed. I don't have one yet but if the Male had let's say, Atk and Def would it still be possible for the egg to 5 perfect stats (minus HP) without the knot? I assume it is and just would take a lot more time to get.
