Mega Evolution is more like how Gyarados isnt a Magikarp, only theyre temporary so they dont occupy a new slot. If you'd rather, theyre more similar to how Rotom or Giratina have an alternate form; one has to hold an item to do so, the other actually gets a boosted BST out of it.
Plus if Megas are removed, then so will Dragon Ascent.
And a multitude of items.
And beedrill will no longer have any use.
And many battle strategies will die.

Megas are not a fucking mechanic, I cannot understand how people think they are. Theyre literally just form changes and evolutions merged together.
