After reading the Lurantis description, I've realised something.

The grammar of the Lurantis description has confirmed that there's more than 4 Island trials.
"Lurantis is the Totem Pokémon of Lush Jungle, the site of an Akala Island trial."
>"an Akala Island trial."
This implies that there's more than one, meaning we won't be stuck playing on trial per island.

3-4 captains per island meaning 12-16 captains, mallow lana and kiawe are all from the same island, i say 3-4 bcuz that fat ass ginger may be from the same island only bcuz of the light house or he can be from the southern most island with the power plant

Why would there be 3-4 Captains per island?

There's likely 2 Captains per island (8 "gym leaders"), and 1 Kahuna per island (maybe modelling a segmented E4 or something, who knows).

each trial equals one type equals on gem for Z move

you get 18 captains for trials for the 18 types

At the end of the game you can build your league among those 18 captains

All we know is 4 Kahunas and >4 Trial Captains, stop pretending anything more than that is fact

We have always had monotype unique characters, it isn't suddenly guaranteed they'll be one for every type just because theres that many z things. Plus if that was the case certain z moves would be unusable for 90% of the game and there would be tremendous bloat or super shallow trials.

Fair enough, got me. I hadn't seen that yet.

It's weird to think that GF would flesh out this game so much and add so many unique characters... rather some of them will appear on other islands, some of the Captains will be one-dimensional as fuck, or GF is going all-out with SM. Not sure how to feel about it.

My hope is each island is pretty open world. You run around doing quests for Captains with actual character and dialogue, that each teach specific things about training/the culture. The climax to each quest is a fight with them, then after you've beaten them all you fight the kahuna.
