After you've learnt the basics just do lots of reading into individual pokemon and learn their strengths/weaknesses, common sets and moves and you'll pick up on things pretty quickly. Also try battling too. Smogon random battles although not really helpful for like OU will show you a few sets and get you practicing with making the right switches and understanding what can absorb what.
