Magnetite is magnetic, having 3 close to each other creates a larger magnetic field than just 3 individually, plus requires a lot of energy to hold together. The huge energy difference is responsible for the extra weight.

The Magneton aren't permanently fixed in a tight triangle pattern. It makes sense to measure their height as a stack of 3.
