Fire type z move. That means it can forgo flare blitz, and use that moveslot for grass knot or some shit to beat bulky water types

The Pokémon has to know a move of said type to use the Z-move. It's literally one of only two requirements.

Doesn't work like that. You need to already be knowing a move of the type to use a Z-move. So Goodra can have a Poison Z-move if it knows Sludge Bomb.

Exactly, I've ad this conversation with some guys in other places.
But I doubt it would be a held item like Gems. Because not having your mega also do Z-move seems like a mis-design by GF.
Also, FUG with Z-Move.

I was wondering about non attacking moves. It'd look weird seeing a shuckle swim around in a torrent of water because it knows withdraw.

Hidden power might also be interesting, but I imagine that would always just be read as a normal move

Problem with FUG having z-move is that it just need to learn Dragon Dance to use dragon-type z-move. It having a set-up move with the much needed dragon stab that's not meteor.
