I only take major issue to Gen 1 pandering when it is exclusively for Gen 1, which so often seems to be the case.
Pokemon's marketing at large tends to focus around Gen 1 pokemon, and while this is understandable, I find it is a malformed process, given the original 151 make up 21% of pokemon that exist.
