Mega absol totally should have been a regular evolution. Messenger of disaster -> angel of death guiding souls to the afterlife after so many times failing to protect everyone and deciding to help in the only way left since they always get blamed for what happened would have been a neat premise for a dex entry.

They also completely changed its shape, and specifically used a battleship/submarine motif with torpedo bay teeth and reticle pattern stripes, while also evoking tiger/sawtooth sharks.

A lot more thought went into it than "spikes and stripes."
