There are a total of 15 captains, one per type, with the exception of Dark, Ghost and Normal
There are no Gyms, but there is an Elite Four equivalent called the Grand Kahunas, with a Champion at the end.
The starter leaks are real.
Ash appears as an NPC postgame and gives you a special Greninja that can transform into Ash Greninja with the mega evolution button, which is just called "special evolution" now.
You do not get to battle Ash.
Your starter can evolve in the same way. This ability is unique to the specific starter you got at the beginning of the game, not to the species as a whole. Hau can similarly evolve his starter this way.
You also receive a Rockruff that can evolve the same way. This is how the evolution method is introduced to you.
