Currently at the Hoenn leauge in my quest to watch every episode
I kinda like having someone around besides Brock who actually knows Pokemon well but since he's not experienced he can be proven wrong and learn
The one thing we call all agree on was that his worst moment was after the Norman battle but hey everyone has their flaws

Got offered the job of Professor Oaks assistant when they got back from the Orange Islands.

Because of this he gets a couple of namedrops and cameos, which funnily enough more than a lot of Ash's other companions, who spent much longer with him, get.

This fucking character only existed so that Ash couldn't win the league so that he could be reused for another fucking generation.
Tobias literally only exists to extend Ash's shitty fucking journey for another couple of generations. And while XY/Z are decent, Ash should've been long gone already.

Yes. I don't think anyone who isn't trolling hates another character more than him. Even looking at him from a writing standpoint, the only thing that comes to mind is, "why?" He was beyond unnecessary as a character.

This kind of thing never really makes sense. You could easily have the series continue and be interesting with ash wining and becoming tutor/a stupider, experience over booksmarts brock to the retarded redundant character on the main team. Pikachu still maining around along with the piplup of the generation occasionally being borrowed by the kohei but most of the time the rocket foil or something

Max barely gets any screentime to say he "ruins" the season. In most episodes he's treated as a second Brock and only has a handful of lines per episode.

He's also easily ignorable in most episodes, because as said, he doesn't do much more than Brock.

The thing about DP is that it wasn't necessary.

The season was hyping up the E4 and Champion and that the winner of the league has to fight them. They bring it up a few times, gave each E4 an episode or two, had Cynthia around a lot.

They could have let him win the league, but still have him lose to Cynthia.
