>>27627853I fully expect to see 18 Trial Captains so there will be one of every type, with the Kahunas using multiple types to keep things from overlapping as well as being more challenging. If they run it that way then every type gets a specialist, every island will have a mini-circuit of it's own leading to the equivalent of one of the E4 members, and we get top pokemon trainers (Kahunas + whatever the champ equivalent is) that are *actually* challenging instead of getting steamrolled by one pokemon with a type advantage.
This also solves the issue of needing a villain team to provide filler in the various towns that don't have a gym, so they can focus on something to do with the legendaries that is happening all on it's own as a sidestory, almost every town/city has a gym/trial, and we can just enjoy our opposition being wild pokemon and our rival. I think that's just enough of a shake up to the formula to make it really fresh feeling and fun, especially with all the other new stuff like z-moves, Alola forms and battle royale, plus the confirmed return of the much wanted customization and a system similar to amie. Sun/Moon is shaping up to be the best entry to the Pokemon franchise in a damn long time, if not the best ever.
