Star Trek is a great example of a show with at its core highly optimistic principles and a very genuine consideration of morality that isn't afraid to face down the ugliness of our reality at the mercy of an indifferent cosmos. How many times has Star Fleet been tempted to use their technology for evil. How many times does it appear necessary for the Federation to be rid of its enemies, that they should go out and seek them, and kill them all. Even the Borg were spared annihilation. The Federation cherishes its ideals but they never go untested.
Stephen Universe balks at the chance to be such a show, at least even the lite version of it. It refuses to let other, powerful, interests into its small, tight little vacuum even when their appearance seems inevitable. When you set up a game wear the world is at stake, it makes little sense for us not to see proportional implications. Thus the show bores me and I don't enjoy it like I did when it first came out.
