It's pretty obvious he's trying to find the most 'realistic' solution for Pokemon, and unlike other artists, he isn't scared to try something different like ghost-types or shit like Vanillite. The Honedge is a pretty clever solution, though I think he could have translated the Trevenant idea a bit better.
