If you bothered to pay attention you'd realize the supposed key stone slot is a flat surface or bulge. Note that the Z crystal slots have darker shading, and that shading extends AROUND the circle

We will have megas and there will be more introduced. But by Gen 8 or 7.5 Megas will be retconned to work more like special forms/4th evolutions that aren't locked per team and don't steal the show completely.
