The turtle is real it turns out it's name wasn't Squirrel+Turtle it was Squirt+Turtle, it evolves into Gunturtle and then Blastoise, and they are all based on water guns. The grass starter is also poison type. I know it doesn't look like it is and I was hesitant to believe it myself but my source said they are very sure it's true!
Also the rival IS the 8th kanto gym leader from last generation, and the story is about him taking down team rocket, and becoming a gym leader, while you become champion.
The 8th gym leader IS the head of team rocket, and so you actually have to fight him multiple times, in both fair gym fights where he is being watched by the league, and in team rocket fights where he goes all out!
Also there is only ONE legendary Pokemon this gen, and it's a man made superpokemon made by taking ditto, which contains every Pokemon's DNA, and supercharging it to give it its own body called Mew which is a powerful psychic type that can destroy entire towns, and is actually the reason Cinnabar Island was destroyed in the last games! That's where the lab that created Mew was!
