The current state of Bionicle is just bad, it's been bad since they went to Metru Nui. The Bohrak-Kal were a stretch already but I stuck with it for the Rahkshi.

I feel the worst part was the one we go through the metru/hordika flashbacks. After that, damn the story gets good and complex. Pirakas, Barraki, The Hero's Sacrifice and on and on.

2004 is great though. The Metru are easily the most well developed team of Toa. They just went back and forth through so much shit that really built them all as characters...

I didn't say it was bad, I think it was the least good. Compared to the story and sets of the following years, '05 leaves you wanting a little more.

The best damn thing about it though was the introduction of the Toa Hagah and the Brotherhood of Makuta. That pretty much singlehandedly laid the groundwork for the endgame of the series.

Movies, online comic book pdfs and wikia. Never had access to any Bionicle books. Never found any pdf of them... I would love to read them though, I feel the story of Vakhama was amazing just as the rest of the Bionicle story

I still think that, while the Metru are great, the Inika might be the ones I'm closest to. We got to see them from Metru Nui to Mata Nui, Back to Metru Nui, then into Toa. That's a hell of a lot of development.

The only one who I thought may have been Mary Sue was Jaller Mahri, but that's because his arc was already complete by the time he got to Mahri Nui. All he needed to do was lead the team.

All the rest of them had pretty good flaws and weren't invariably unbeatable, especially Matoro. Dude was broken as fuck.

My favorite bionicles were the second group of toa, the ones that were the village chiefs of the previous ones. That lived in Metru Nui or something. The new ones were made of too many pre molded pieces. It's hard to explain what I mean. The best example are the hands. The neq onea I'd seen in stores had a tually molded plastic hands. The old ones had that joint piece for a hand. I like that better a) because it makes the designs FEEL more Lego-y since it isn't exactly what it is but a Lego piece used tgat way, and B) more pieces with less defined purpose meant more pieces to use for anything. You couldn't use the hand piece as anything but a hand, but that joint piece could be anything. As the bionicles went on they added more and more molded pieces and I think that made them lose some of their charm. I was huge into these when I was young.
