Why do they keep the trade-to-evolve mechanic? Everyone seems to hate it.

Because Gamefreak wants people to communicate with each other and trade Pokemon. It's not like it's hard with the GTS.

I figure it was to connect people together. For my first XY run, me and my friend traded eachother Trevenant and Pumpkaboo, and used them all the way to the Elite 4. It felt kind of spiritual to have my friend's Gourgeist helping me at the Elite 4.
