It's not like every leaker is an expert in marine biology. If a leaker sees Gyarados but they don't know about the japanese wind kites or whatever the fuck, they're probably just going to call it a dragon. Then if it gets revealed as a water/flying, it's not like their leak is deconfirmed.

It has a little fluffy tail like a bunny though, it's both. Not the first time a pokemon was more than one thing, not the last. This doesn't really confirm anything, could be a lucky guess. Someone else guessed ninetales would get another form and if they didn't get the wrong type everyone would believe all the shit they posted. Chances are though, leaks are real.

It looks much more similar to pic related, a sea cucumber, and also exhibits traits of them like shooting their insides out; it even has Sea Cucumber in the name.

While mollusks and echinoderm are super fucking far from being related, various Pokemon combine more than one thing. The sea bunny was popular in Japan, so it could be shoehorning off of that, but its name and the fact it spews its entrails are very sea cucumber.

The leaks were proven with the existence of Alolan Forms and Oricorio. By proxy, they were proven further since they mention that the Starters are an Archer, a Wrestler, and a Siren, which lines up exactly with the leaked reference art, which features Mallow in it.

So the leaks were confirmed before Namakobushi was announced. Namakobushi, yes, resembles a sea bunny more than a sea cucumber, but that doesn't stop it from further evolving into a sea cucumber.

It's description of vomiting a fist-shaped organ is the behavior of a sea cucumber vomiting its repiratory organs, yet the little fluffy tail and cutesy appearance seems to be from the sea bunny. But for the most part, it's more sea cucumber than anything. Just like how Wimpod is a wharf roach, looks more like a horseshoe crab/trilobite/copepod hybrid, but is definitely more wharf roach than anything thanks to its behavioral description. Behavior is very important in identifying animals, and not just pokemon!
