I get scared sometimes, to be honest.
Pokemon are designed with a lot of effort and they are meant to be understood easily after a couple of seconds.
The fact that Pokemon that are years old, in some instances, are misunderstood by some adults, however intellectually challenged they may be, is pretty depressing. Sure, some of them are culturally alien to some countries, but a lot of the time it's upsetting how apparently brain-dead so much of the community is here.

It's a slug. They can still be based on both. Look at gliscor, you don't see people trying to say it doesn't have scorpion bits because it has bat wings. Since when were pokemon only allowed one inspiration. They aren't real animals, they don't have to fit into their classifications.

though granted, that was Gen 1 during the GB era so I guess technology isn't available. Compare that to say, Tyrantrum, with subtle spot coloration changes and implied scales without overwhelming the body

It's both. Sea cucumber because of the shape and spines and star mouth. sea bunny because of the pun, with its fluffy tail, the rabbit-ear spines, and the fact that the mouth is similar to a stylized rabbit nose.
