What if Rockruffs evolution has something to do with the collectible Z-stones?...

He already has a diamond pattern on his neck.
And gf are hyping his evolution up so it has to be something not seen before...

Rockruff is probably going to be how you find the Z-stones, like it alerts you when you're near one at predetermined points in the game.

Maybe its evolution's secondary typing is dependent on the starter you choose.

In X and Y, the legendary bird you can catch depends on the starter you choose. In Black and White, the elemental monkey you receive also depends on your starter. So maybe Rockruff's final evo gains a second typing that's meant to balance out your team.

Or maybe Rockruff learns a move depending on your starter's type.

This could be all there is to the secret, something as simple as that.

But it is very interesting that its collar contains these diamond-shaped rocks. Very possible that there's a connection there.

CoroCoro confirmed they will show Rockruffs "Secret Evolution" next Coro Coro on a poster meaning it will likely be a whole page. This means it probaly doesn't have anything to do with Z-Moves. Also the first Coro Coro to mention the secret mentions the starters and Rockruff. If Rockruff evolves based on the starters, or Rockruff is the 4th starter, then that would be be right because then it wouldn't be a "shared secret" like CoroCoro implies

We don't know for sure, but the one thing we have to go off of for speculation (i.e. "Z-moves") seems like a dead giveaway. I have this tinfoil hat theory that, after Xerneas and Yveltal created Mega Stones, which we know is a fact, Zygarde created Z-stones to prevent Mega Evolution from ruining the balance of nature.
