It's possible they just aren't marketing them anymore since they aren't the cool new thing and you gotta keep in mind, all this information on sun and moon is ultimately just marketing. I doubt they'll retcon the existing megas out of existence, those at least will probably been in. New ones? I think they're unlikely at this point, since not a single one has even been hinted at.

a vast majority of megas are bad. like audino, banette, steelix, ampharos, not to mention fucking latios
only 6 megas come to mind that are actually amazing: lopunny, diancie, charizard-X, metagross, scizor and altaria. gardevoir, gallade, pinsir, heracross, manectric and medicham are all usable too, i guess, that makes 12. out of 48 megas ffs. that's 1/4

What if megastones got replaced with the Z-Crystals? And triggering the Z-Move was what caused your Pokemon to megaevolve? The sudden surge of energy for the attacks also is mega energy or something, just now its also being channeled through something for Pokemon without mega evolutions. Didn't one of the leaks say that the "logo crystals" caused form changes?

Yeah, but it stops the absurd stall out stuff like Protect M-Blaziken who gets the free speed boost from that. Also it kinda is similar to M-Fug who has to know Dragon Ascent for its evolution.

I'm trying to think of a way to shut down M-Kanga with this method since that's probably the only Mega GF even thinks about when it comes to balance.
