>>27707421Pokemon is a complex and multi-layered game of rock-paper-scissors at its core.
Type effectiveness, phys/spec, speed tiers, movepools, ability choice, etc., it's really just about building to cover as wide an array of advantages/disadvantages as possible.
So if the game is designed well, it should be teaching you that stuff. It should be scaled in such a way that a new player can start out knowing nothing about these mechanics, but by the end he is forced to master them.
Any new Pokemon player should finish a game of pokemon with a really solid understanding of team-building. The fact that they gain literally ZERO knowledge in that regard shows just how poorly-balanced the game is. Could you imagine beating Street Fighter without ever learning to do a super? Could you imagine beating Mario Kart without ever learning to use an item? Could you imagine beating Gears of War without ever learning to use cover?
Pokemon isn't just a game about exploration. It's a game about collecting and battling. But you can consistently wipe the fucking floor with every trainer in the game, E4 included, using nothing but your starter, with minimal effort. No collecting, no real battling, just mashing A on through.
That doesn't seem like a problem?
