The medieval system was pretty much set into place after the crisis of the third century, before Christianity became the religion of the Roman Empire. And the stagnation of inventions and science wasn't really a new thing either, the Roman Empire just excelled at administrating and military, their knowledge and tech also just came from the Greeks. And of course the claim that the church stopped science is ridiculous. Most scientists in the Modern Period have been Christian, and were able to start off with more than nothing precisely because the church had preserved the ancient Greek stuff. Copernicus wasn't some fedora for example, he was a cleric, and just experienced the same backlash from the scientific community that anyone would today if they presented a radically different theory.
Of course the church can do bad stuff - it's made up of humans after all - but this dumb fedora meme of le dumb anti-science x-tions is retarded.
