>Popplio may be a combination of sea lion pup, pop, pōpō (Hawaiian for ball), and ʻīlio-holo-i-ka-uaua (Hawaiian for the Hawaiian monk seal; meaning "dog that runs in rough water")

>Ashimari may be a combination of 海驢 ashika (sea lion), 鞠 mari (ball), and marine.

So, why is it that Popplio's name seems to mostly retain the ball and sea lion pun in its name in all languages bar the possibly far'fetched hawaiian meaning

except in France where he's called

>Otaquin
>From otarie and taquin

And otarie usually means "sea lion"

but taquin meaning any of these words?

>impish
>mischievous
>playful
>tease
>teaser
>teasing
