I'd be alright with it if they didn't half ass it. Having decently paced level ups and benchmarks could really salvage their basic idea. If a rival like Trevor showed up every so often with a team of the surrounding route/dungeon's rarest pokemon (especially if the habitat list doesn't make a comeback); if a rival like Tierno was more about gimmick move sets, rather than just dance. And if Shauna and Serena/Calem got decent complementary teams.
