Considering Topkek is a legendary, it'll either get banned or be somewhere in the range of OU to UU. Alola Raichu is nothing special, and as I've stated before unless it gets stat bonuses or its 110 speed swapped to special attack it won't even be better than the other swift swim/chlorophyl/sand rush users we already have.

So Topkek will be good, this doesn't make Alola Raichu good, even if it ends up the only mon with surge surfer. Raichu's stats are bad and Psychic is a bad typing.

Psychic typing is useful to best poisons that might want to hurt Tapu Koko, and is effective hate against for example Amoonguss. Psychic is not a good type but it has its niche. Also id not know why were assuming it will have arqichu's stats. We know Alola forms have shifted stats. It's more likely to be different than the same I'd imagine. And Gamefreak is much smarter about distribution thwn they were in Gen 1 and 2 where raichu got it'd stats.

I've yet to see confirmation that Alola forms will have changed base stats, and even if they do Raichu needs a good boost to special attack to be relevant.

They've said when Alola Form Sandslash and Ninetales were revealed that they had different stats than normal. They didn't say EVERY Alola Form had different stats but it does like a safe assumption that that would be the case.

Usually on rain teams/to protect water types because lightning rod is amazing, or it doubled as a lead with encore+fake out pressure

I'm not impressed with the new raichu.

Psychic typing is a disadvantage because it makes you sucker punchable regardless of how fast you are, and unless they do a serious stat switch, this will nuke raichu. Probably eating his focus sash, since it's raichu. But still.

Doubling speed isn't a huge deal when original raichu was base 110

So I don't know.

Much of how good alolan raichu is will depend on what they did with its stats, but I have doubts it will be better than regular ol raichu.

Politoed/Kingdra and Ninetails/Venusaur were almost as retarded. But yeah, air balloon Ttar plus sand rush excadrill was fucking retarded in doubles. Literally the only way to deal with it was countering with another kind of auto weather. Oh also Lando T fucking everywhere (still is, the piece of shit). Gen 5 ended up being so retarded. Not as bad as 6 with megas though.

I miss gen 4, I think that was the golden gen in terms of balance and potential team diversity, the only broken pokemon was Garchomp. Unfortunately it also introduced sneaky stones which are too good for the time investment it takes to lay them. Rocks should have been broken if they dug into something they were NFE against imo.
