I was pondering this very thread topic just yesterday evening, actually. I mean, we think about it in terms of how we see OUR world, like "oh, they're animals" and such. But don't most, if not all Pokemon show a certain degree of intelligence? Even real world animals are able to show general affection towards their owners because they're intelligent enough to know "this thing cares for me, therefore I enjoy it's company." Now, think about if animals had near human level intelligence (and keep in mind, some Pokemon are even supposed to have high then human level intelligence), if you up the intelligence, you up the ability to understand and comprehend complex thoughts and feelings. At what level does simple affection become something more akin to love?
In response to OPs topic in general, I think pokephilia in the Pokemon world is definitely a thing, and is probably generally accepted. I would imagine like homosexuality was viewed in the 80s and 90s. People knew it was a thing, but it still wasn't something you went around telling everyone about. It probably has a lot to do with what KIND of Pokemon, as well. The "permon" vs "peoplemon" thing. Like, I think people would be more OK with keeping you shag a Gardevoir then, say, a Skitty. And where does age come into play? I Pokemon can age without evolving. Like the Pikachu from the episode soth the surfer. That Pikachu was supposed to be, what, 30, 40 years old? So it was definitely "grown", but it'd probably still be a bit odd to lay the dick down, because it's still a foot tall little mouse thing.
I dunno. Of course Pokemon aren't real. People still fuck animals even in our real world. Everyone has their kink. I know I d got my list of pokes I'd poke, given the chance. Frowned upon or not. Who knows? Guess we'll never be sure.
