I don't think eastern media has the same focus on LGBTQ representation that western media has in the last couple years. Especially with nonbinary stuff which is more of a western millenial idea (ignoring things like two-spirit/etc. that have been around forever in other cultures).

Maybe if Japan radically change their culture. Right now they're pretty anti-gay, or at least against the concept of outwardly expressing gay relationships.

Even if they did put in a LGBT character in, I think it would be extremely unnecessary. Romantic relationships are rarely seen at all in the games anyway, outside of a few NPC trainers. And I can't see any possible reason a character would bring up the fact they're trans.

Any thing with gender neutral programs would be retarded and a majority of LGBT people would even think it'd be stupid.

Japan almost never makes any character "officially" gay but there are trainers like Wallace who are clearly super fucking gay, and anyone else you can project what you want onto them. I feel like Clair is a lesbian, idk.

The whole non-binary thing just doesn't apply, I don't think gender identity is a big deal in a world revolving around beasts that obey your command.

Unlikely. One of the things shown in Pokemon is a stable Japanese family with the father out training all the time to earn money. Maybe the mother is the one absent at some point?

Gym Leaders & other older characters.
Most likely source, but they won't come out and say it. It would come out in flavor text or an NPC saying something subtle like "I want to get to know GYM LEADER."
