>>27793304It really deserves to be better. Especially in gens 1 and 2, GF balanced pokemon around when you obtained them ingame. Beedrill could be obtained at level 10, and so they gave it a low BST of 385 (now 395).
Ariados isn't obtained until level 22 (!), and by that point there are much better pokemon available and stronger opponents to fight. But it was only given a meagre 390 BST. Compared to Beedrill, it has the same attack, better defense, worse special defense, and much worse speed. Considering how terrible spinarak was in GS and how much of a chore it was to get to 22, it's really not justified to make it so shitty.
