I don't remember my very first teams in Ruby, Emerald, or LeafGreen, but Pearl wasn't long after.

Before DELELELELELE WHOOOOOOOP and any knowledge of actual Pokemon combat viability I kinda liked cricketune.

Well my first game was Yellow and the only things that I remember are one run were I just used a overleveld Pikachu and one were I used a overleveld Dugtrio. Aside of that I played generations 3 and 4 at emulators and R4 so I don't remember very well my teams. But when I was back at playing at Pokemon cartridges was with Heart Gold and pic releated was my team (most of the pokemons I passed from my Platinum from the R4)

My first attempt at putting together a competitive team. Just went by "This Pokemon is probably good due to reasons." and trained them to level 100. No thoughts about IVs, EVs nor meta.

Not especially, it's in an area you have to go to (Pokemon Mansion), it has a 10% spawn rate but if he was like me as a kid and got stuck there like a fucking idiot given enough time one would probably show up.

Or he could've had one of those "Strategy guide" magazines that basically tell you what to do and where everything is, I know I had like 3 of those for RBY just cause every publishing company that did kid's stuff put them out.

My 1st game was pokemon blue. I remeber I strugled as fuck with with E4 and when I finally beat Lance I was sure that was it and was happy as fuck and then I saw blue there and was like "WTF?!" I was really confused and suprised (I was 10 back then and had no walkthroughs or internet). I remeber I threw masterball at his venusaur (because I saw 1st pokemon movie and saved my masterball to get blues starter and I ofc lost it like retard that way) and when we were down to our last mons I had haunter on me with no pp left on any move. I beat him only thx to my haunters ghost type and the fact that I had enough super potions to heal struggle dmg. That was the most exiting pokemon battle I had in my life, because it was my biggest battle back then, it was suprise for me and I won just slightly thx to the haunter I love to this day. Still one of my fav mons thx to this battle. Oh the nostalgia

My team in yellow was originally pikachu, dugtrio, and articuno. Just those three.

Yesterday I asked this but only got one reply. I plan to replay fire red and want underutilized and underrated pokemon. Hypno was suggested and nothing else, thoughts? NFE are welcome. Tangela was an idea I had, I never see it on people's team.

The problem is that FR/LG came after the special split, but before the physical/special split so a whole lot of pokemon are less viable.
Tangela is quite good in R/B but due to the special split its Special Defense is down by half from what it originally was.
Hell look at Gyrados, with its base special attack of 60, down from a special of 100 in R/B. Since the physical/ special split hasn't happened yet it makes him shit at actually using water attacks.

Muk, Arbok, Dewgong, Fearow, Tauros, and Farfetched

Never seen any of those on people's teams and that should cover all your HMs

Other candidates: Persian for Tauros and Rapidash for Arbok or Muk (type diversity), Farfetched is there for memes and also knowing cut, but lickitung or parasect could fill that role too and weren't that popular

All youre missing is a Persian and a Tauros and yeah this is pretty much the perfect competitive.

Also EVs didnt exist in Gen 1 and 2, and in the form they DID, you could cap every single stat. IVs still did, in a lesser version, though. So it was a bit easier, with no nature, ability, HA, and EVs to worry about instead you just max all your stat exp

It's not my first team because I don't remember what I used back in Blue. Blue and Gold were the only games I had played until PokemonGO.

I played throught HeartGold on an emulator a week or so ago and this was my team. My first pokemon team in 16 years.

I don't remember much about my first Red run.

I do recall not knowing what to do after Lt. Surge and having a level 40 something Charizard by the time I got to rock tunnel.

I think I primarily used charizard and a Vaporeon.
I think I had a Pidgeotto (note, not pigeot) that I used for flying.

I don't remember every using any other pokemon in battle.

Thanks guys for the input, really appreciate it. I'm actually now thinking of maybe doing a yellow run with the pokemon suggested, it sounds like a lot of shitmon ate a bit more viable. Viability isn't the most important thing though, mostly just wanted pokemon I don't see often given a chance a time to shine.

This happened with me too. I actually thought I would need to do a new game to escape from that hell.

Actually, my team on blue was a Nidoqueen at lv 50~60, Butterfree 85+ and Articuno at 60-70

I never cared to train anything else because i used to spam Butterfree's Psybeam on everything.
